WELCOME MIDLOTHIAN HUNTINGTON LEARNING CENTER

April 8, 2011
Founded in 1977, Huntington Learning Center is the nation’s longest-running supplemental education services provider.  Huntington provides instruction in reading, writing, spelling, phonics, mathematics and study skills to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. We also provides PSAT, SAT, and ACT preparation. Huntington strives to help parents, caregivers and educators identify the gaps in skills and knowledge that can limit learning potential. As early as middle school, eighth grade, children have career decisions that they must make. Are they interested in a standard or advanced diploma? Are they interested in technology, or agriculture? Or perhaps a trade? Ninth and tenth graders must consider PSATs. Juniors and seniors are already mapping their college years. There are many things that parents can do to help their student stay on track. It is important to discuss with your child, even in broad terms, what their goals are and the best way to achieve them as early as seventh and eighth grade. Make a plan and stick with it. Some loose guidelines would include:Grade 8: decide on standard or advanced diploma. Over the summer study for the PSAT.Grade 9: the PSAT is offered in the early fall, take it.Over the summer prepare to retake the PSAT, or take the SAT.Grade 10: retake the PSAT, or the SAT if ready.Start looking at colleges.Grade 11: Take the SAT. Visit colleges.Over the summer continue to explore college options. Find out application deadlines for schools of interest. Start drafting application essays. Grade 12: retake the SAT, if necessary. File applications & FAFSA.

It is important to remember that colleges look at more than academics. Have your child find clubs or activities that interest them. The Huntington Learning Center can help prepare your child for their next PSAT/SAT/ACT exam.  For more information please contact the Huntington Learning Center of Midlothian at 378-0754.
