"Meet" Junie B Jones, Audrey Kate

Virginia Rep's Newest Family Show

October 28, 2016
Tell us a little about yourself, age, school, siblings etc..
I am thirteen years old, and I am in the 8th grade at Chickahominy Middle School. I have three brothers, and I am their only sister.   My older brothers are in college at VCU and UVA.  I live with my parents and have a little brother named Jackson who is 8.

How did you get started in acting, how old were you?
I started taking acting classes when I was seven.  I never was selected to be in a play/musical until I was 8 and had the opportunity of playing Anne in Madeline’s Christmas at Virginia Rep! Chase Kniffen cast me in that show.  He was my first director and now (four years later) he is directing me in Junie B. Jones.

What is your all time favorite role that you have played?
I really enjoyed playing Mouse in Goodnight Moon at Virginia Rep and Strawberry in Freckleface Strawberry at SPARC.  I’d have to say these are my two favorite past roles that I have played, but I think Junie B. will be my favorite.

What role would you love to play?
At this age, I would love to play Winnie Foster in Tuck Everlasting and Tina Denmark in Ruthless.

Do you have a favorite play that you have seen or want to see?
My favorite show that I’ve seen would have to be Ghost the Musical. I was 9 years old, and I knew nothing about this show, but it ended up being one of my definite favorites, especially because I had the chance to meet the lead and take a picture with him! (my Grandma ended up deleting it by accident)
I want to see Hamilton and will get to see it in January.

What are your long term goals?
My goal is to attend a college in NYC (preferably Juilliard) and win the title of Miss America. Another goal of mine is to play Eliza Hamilton in Hamilton on Broadway.

How do you manage juggling school and your theatre interests?
I’ve never found it hard managing these two very important parts of my life. I go to rehearsal for a couple of hours, come home and finish my homework, and get ready for bed. It took a little getting used to during my first show, but it’s now become part of my daily routine.

What do you like to do when you are not in school or acting?
One thing that you might not know about me is that I have competed in a couple of pageants. I have competed in the preteen division in the Miss Virginia pageant, and I am preparing to move up to the teen division. I also take voice lessons with Heidi Taylor since the 2nd grade and have danced at Headliners Dance Studio for 7 years.

Do you have a favorite movie, book, food?
My favorite food would have to be calamari; it’s been my favorite since I was little. My favorite movie is Tuck Everlasting, but the musical is even better! I really liked the book Flipped, and it probably is my favorite that I’ve read, even though I read it two years ago.

Any suggestions / advice for the readers and their children that you can share?
My advice would be to never give up. Even if life is getting tough, you have to keep your head up. It took a while for someone to notice that I was capable of all of this, but it all paid off in the end.  I think it is great when you can find your passion because you are more likely to achieve things when you know what you want.
