Elf, The Musical . Heartwarming Memory Maker

Macaroni Kid Review

By Kim Loy December 9, 2016
Just in time for the Holidays, “Elf the Musical” opened last night at the Altria Theater.   Based on the hilarious 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, “Elf” addresses a timeless issue - too much focus on work and not enough attention to loved ones, the Holidays and enjoying life in general.

My daughter and I attended last night’s performance and found the show full of energy, humor and sweetness.  The musical is mostly faithful to the movie’s plot, with a few minor script and joke changes, as well as the added musical numbers.  Some of the songs are catchy enough that you may find yourself humming them as you leave the theater.  The actors and sets are all exceptional in accomplishing the complex task of bringing a movie to the big stage as a musical.  The performers embody their roles with gusto and sincerity and fully engage the audience throughout.

If you enjoyed the movie, you will love this musical rendition.  It is not exactly like the movie, so prepare to not know it all!  If you have not seen the movie, fear not, the plot is simple enough and you will find yourself downloading or renting a copy of the film just to enjoy it again.  This show is a fantastic start (or continuation) of your Holiday season. There are a few words that may cause you to cover your little ones' ears.  I would suggest a matinee for the younger kids.

“Elf” is funny, full of energy and family friendly, with a sprinkling of jokes for adults.  The message is one of happiness and a heartwarming family memory maker for sure!

ElF is not here for long, thru Dec 11. Ticket info here.
