Saving Money on Gifts: Buy all year Round!
Gifts can add up. Especially if you have a large family, lots of friends etc.! Back in 2008 I had to go to 3 weddings, 3 baby showers and several birthday parties. Lots of money was spent on gifts!
In 2009 I decided to start a “gift stash” I now shop all year round for gifts and if I find something cheap, I buy it and keep it in the stash. I made a list of all of my friends and relative’s birthdays, anniversaries etc. plus what they like. For example, my Aunt loves Isotoner slippers. I had found some on clearance at Sears last year after Christmas so I bought them and kept them in my gift closet until her birthday came around in February.
Having a “gift closet” or “gift stash” is great for those unexpected invitations. Your child’s school friend may have invited them to a birthday party and now all of a sudden you need a gift. Having that gift stash would help!
My youngest sister decided to get married last week which was a surprise! Luckily I had a nice frame that I had actually found at The Christmas Tree Shop on clearance for $0.48! I had some leftover wedding paper in my gift stash which helped. All I have to do now is mail her gift which will probably cost much more than the gift! Having her gift in had helped save me time and money!
If you have a chance this weekend, start making a list of your relatives, friends, co-workers etc. birthdays and what they like. Then start checking out sales at stores for gift ideas, wrapping paper, cards and begin to build your “gift stash”!
Have your say
