This fall, ten Richmond students will write their first line of code, assemble a working robot, and design an object they print themselves. Innovators of Tomorrow, a free 14-week after-school STEAM program from Mind in Motion, begins Tuesday, September 15, at Common Table Church in Richmond, and registration is now open for students ages 11 to 16.
The program meets weekly through December 15 and covers Python programming, robotics, environmental science, digital design, and 3D printing. Students finish by building a capstone project of their own choosing and presenting it at a showcase for families and community partners. Enrollment is limited to 10 students for the inaugural cohort, and the program is free to participating families.
Every session ends with something the student made and can take home. Mind in Motion built the program around that principle, on the belief that a young person who has debugged their own program or held a piece they designed thinks differently about what they're capable of than one who has only read about it.
Mind in Motion is also seeking local STEAM professionals: engineers, software developers, designers, and scientists; to speak with students during the program's career exploration week.
