Meet Waddles!

Autism Society of Central Virginia's Official Duck Race Mascot

August 17, 2025

Meet Waddles, the official mascot for the ASCV Duck Race & Festival of Inclusion!

Waddles made his first appearance this morning at the Genworth Office Building in Short Pump. This unveiling kicks off the lead-up to the Autism Society of Central Virginia's annual RVA Duck Race and Festival of Inclusion, happening on September 6th at Browns Island. Proceeds from the event help fund the ASCV's vital programs and services that support families like Jennifer Barnum's, the Board Chair of the Autism Society of Central Virginia.

Jennifer's son Eli was diagnosed with autism at three years old, leaving her feeling lost and alone. Finding the ASCV shortly after his diagnosis became one of their family’s best decisions, providing hope, connection, and a way to celebrate Eli’s unique strengths and milestones.

ASCV has played a big role in our family's journey with autism. My older son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. Through ASCV, I learned about the IEP process and how to advocate for his needs. Now, at 13 and starting 8th grade, he's navigating this journey successfully, thanks to ASCV's support.

Last year, ASCV hosted 459 programs and events, reaching over 11,000 participants, with the duck race being one of its highlights. Contributions and community partnerships ensure events like these continue, allowing the ASCV to provide essential services all year long.

Come meet Waddles in person on September 6th at the ASCV Duck Race & Festival of Inclusion!
