RVA Illuminates: A Richmond Holiday Tradition Returns to Kanawha Plaza

The magic of the season is about to shine bright in the heart of downtown Richmond. On Friday, December 5, gather at Kanawha Plaza (E Canal Street & S 7th Street) for RVA Illuminates.

Festivities begin at 4:00 PM, with the plaza buzzing with live music, food trucks, and the joyful anticipation of the season. As the sun sets, the excitement builds toward the big moment—at 5:59 PM sharp, Richmond Mayor Danny Avula, alongside RVA Parks and Recreation, will lead the countdown to flip the switch. In an instant, the Downtown Richmond skyline and holiday tree will sparkle to life, filling the city with warmth and wonder.

This cherished celebration is hosted by WRIC 8News and the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. Familiar faces from 8News—Deanna Allbrittin, Eric Philips, Madison Moore, Heather Hope, and meteorologist Matt Dinardo—will be on hand to share in the joy and connect with the crowd.
