Description

For all ages.

In 1619, the Good Ship Margaret set sail from England, and after a stormy voyage across the Atlantic, landed in Virginia at Berkeley Hundred.  In accordance with the instructions given to them by the Virginia Company, these settlers, at the direction of Captain John Woodlief, gave thanks for their safe arrival.  This first official English-speaking Thanksgiving, occurred one year and 17 days before the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts.

In this informative and entertaining program, Graham Woodlief, president of the Virginia Thanksgiving Festival, and descendant of Captain John Woodlief, will recount the experience of the first settlers at what is now know as Berkeley Plantation and the events leading up to the real first Thanksgiving.
