Spiders Spotlight December

Women’s Basketball Player – Kristina King

What position do you play now?

I play a combo guard position that can handle the ball, but mainly play a two or a three here at Richmond.

When did you start playing basketball?

I have been playing basketball on organized teams since I was in second grade. However, I have been around basketball since I could walk. Both of my parents played basketball and I grew up going to all my aunt's basketball games when she played for the University of Louisville.

Did you ever play other sports?

Yes, I played multiple sports growing up.

What were they and when did you realize there was a future for you in college basketball?

I played volleyball, softball, soccer and even ran cross country for a year. I realized that I had a chance to play collegiate basketball when I was in seventh grade, playing for my high school teams and receiving letters in eighth grade.

How many hours a day do you have to practice?

There are times for practice that generally last for about two hours. However, in order to get better I have to work on things on my own. I usually have a plan for what I want to or need to work on and leave when I feel comfortable.

What do you enjoy on your off time?

I enjoy hanging out with my team and watching movies in my off time.

What are your plans after college graduation?

I want to play basketball for as long as I can. After graduation, I will be coaching for a little and continuing playing. After I am done I want to become involved with a professional sports team handling their marketing operations.

Share a thought with our readers to help inspire those wanting to play a sport in college.

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get to the college level. There were many times where I had to sacrifice hanging out with friends in order to get more shots up or travel to go to an AAU tournament. Set a goal for yourself and know what you want to do, and then go and do it! When you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
