Charlie Allen is a 9th grader at Veritas. He is playing Mushu in Mulan this weekend. Here is a little info about Charlie !
How long have you been acting with CYT - how many shows?
I've been acting with CYT for 5 years - a total of 17 different shows.
What CYT class has been the most helpful to you and your acting?
Probably the most helpful classes have been those that dealt with character development. They helped me think about what shaped the character - how his past experiences might affect his personality and his reactions to the situations on stage. It's all about trying to understand them and how they would feel about what's going on. I've also taken a lot of singing classes which have helped me develop my singing and performance skills.
What do you like most about playing Mushu?
About being Mushu: Its fun to have the freedom to just be wacky sometimes. That's who Mushu is.
The costume was designed by Mrs. Nugent to look like the cartoon Mushu. She made it from cloth, cable, fluff, foam and a backpack. Its actually pretty easy to put on. Its the makeup that takes lots of time. We spend about 1 1/2 hours getting ready before a show.
Will you pursue acting after school?
Acting as a career? Yes, absolutely.
