We all know that joining a gym can be an intimidating experience. At American family we want your experience to be as enjoyable as possible. We have been locally owned and operated since 1988. We pride ourselves in being a premier fitness center that can help anyone achieve their health and wellness goals no matter how big or small. While each of our locations is a little different we all have the same goal which is to provide each of our members with a great workout experience. Whether you are taking one of our group x classes, using our state of the art cardio or strength equipment, or taking advantage of our many additional services, we definitely have something for everyone!
Locations – We have a total of 9 locations with 7 in the greater Richmond area. We are open 24 hours from Sunday-Friday. Open 24 hours beginning 7am Sunday, closing at 10pm on Friday; Saturday: 7am-8pm. Here are our locations:

Kidzone and Kids Fitness
The KidZone takes children as young as 6 weeks up to 13 years old. Reservations are required for children up to 12 months. We have a variety of age-specific classes, activities and play areas for children of all ages. Activities and hours vary by location, and here are just a few of the awesome activities we offer:
- Basketball/soccer/football/Sport specific camps
- Hip-hop dance
- Jr. Strive
- Kids yoga
- Storytime
- Crafts
- Pool Play
- Relays and much more!
In addition to kids’ specific classes and activities we also encourage families to work out together by attending family friendly classes. Family friendly classes can be located on our schedules as classes with the family icon next to the class . Children ages 9-13 are also allowed to use non-motorized equipment (most everything besides treadmill and stepmill) under adult supervision. Whether your goal is to lose weight, build muscle, improve cardiovascular health or to just generally get healthier we offer a wide variety of services to help anyone achieve their fitness goals.
Group X – We are excited to announce a new group X program called Mossa to our class lineup. Our Mossa classes will include options in freestyle, yoga, cycle, core training, step and much more! In addition to Mossa classes we offer Zumba, barre, aquatics classes and Strive.
Personal Training- Each location features certified personal trainers who will help assess your current physical condition through a functional movement screen, discuss your goals and help you set up a plan to achieve them. All through a free initial consultation.
Nutrition Services – Metabolic testing is a brand new approach to nutrition and exercise. With metabolic testing we can give you the tools you need to maximize your results. There are two tests available, Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and VO2 max. If the tests aren’t for you one of our two company Registered Dietitians can guide you through a grocery store tour, sit down with you and your family for a one-on-one consultation or just answer any general questions you may have.
Aquatics – In addition to our group aquatics fitness classes we offer aquatic personal training, US Master and fitness swim classes, group, private and semi-private swim lessons for adults and children of all ages, Swim Club, Pool Play and open swim. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent unless during scheduled pool play times. Pool play is available to children over 4 years of age.
