Guys, I can’t tell you how much we love audio books in our house. They are amazing! We listen to them constantly in the car. It helps manage some of the drive time sibling conflict. We also all love listening to stories.
Here are a few recent listens that really captivated our attention.
- The Trumpet and the Swan by E.B. White - Oh my how I loved this story! The perseverance of the Swan is a great life lesson. The story includes a sweet love story and a boisterous Dad. It’s outlandish and realistic in the best kinds of ways.
- The Henry Huggins Audio Collection by Beverly Cleary- We listened to these via Hoopla (a free app that allows you to check out books/movies/etc with your library card). Several of them are narrated by Neil Patrick Harris, who did an amazing job. The stories about Henry are so fun and lovable. We can listen to these over and over and never tire of the silly stories about Henry and his sweet dog Rigsby.
- The Magic Treehouse Collection by Mary Pope Osborne- We’ve listened to SO many books from this collection. The stories have a predictable pattern with a brother and sister as the main characters for all the books. This makes it easy to jump in at any point in the series and enjoy the book. Every story has a little adventure, problem-solving and tells some story from the past. My boys love them!
- The Ramona Quimby Collection by Beverly Cleary- This series overlaps with the Henry Huggins series. I personally find Ramona hilarious, probably because she reminds me a lot of our youngest daughter. I can just imagine my girl walking into Kindergarten, in the same manner, Ramona does in one of these books.
- Geronimo Stilton- These books have a bit of adventure and mystery but nothing too crazy. My boys love following this mouse on all his adventures. They have also got into the show that’s on Netflix, too (but I try to encourage the book of course).
Hope these help inspire you to go check out some great audiobooks for your family to enjoy. We have gotten through so many great books, thanks to the car and audio books. Sometimes our evenings get crazy and it’s hard to dive into longer more complex books as a family. I find audiobooks are a great way to make sure we don’t neglect reading to our kids. We always spend time in the care every day, so pairing drive time with reading is a great way to add literature to a busy life!
