Home Away From Home At Kingsmill Resort, Just One Hour From Richmond

July 12, 2019

10 Summers in Richmond, that is how many we have been here and every one of those Summers we have had a visit to Kingsmill. This is my first time writing about it and sharing a little about this family-friendly resort. I think the ability to be an hour from home and having so many of the comforts of home,  give this an added perk for traveling with children of all ages and abilities.

Kingsmill Resort is in Williamsburg,  a few minutes from Busch Gardens, Water Country USA and Colonial Williamsburg. There are many types of packages available, if you are interested in going to any of those, we did not. We just love the grounds and resort and always find so much to do. It is located on The James River, the water views are beautiful, so serene.

The accommodations vary from a standard guest room to  1, 2, or 3-bedroom condos, and then larger private riverside cottages, and private vacation homes.  We stayed in a 1 bedroom condo, it was so spacious and comfortable, plus having a kitchen to prepare the food our son likes is so helpful, having a fridge to keep his sodas cold and some space to decompress is so easy with the spacious room we had. Our balcony overlooking the river was my escape.  We only stayed one night this visit, but in the past, when we stayed longer, the washing machine and dryer is a GIFT!

Accommodations vary a bit, and you can see them here, but in our 1 BR condo, we had:

  •  Master bedroom with a king-size bed
  •  Spacious living room with a queen-size sleep sofa
  •  Dining room
  •  Fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, basic dishes)
  •  Keurig coffee maker
  •  Private balcony or patio
  •  Fireplace (in most condo units)
  •  Television in the living room and bedroom
  •  In-room washer/dryer
  •  Plush robes
  •  Hair dryer
  •  Umbrella
  •  Iron/ironing board
  •  In-room safe
  •  Desk
  •  Complimentary wi-fi
  •  Multi-line telephones
  • Personal voicemail and free local calls
  • 42” Flat Panel TV
  •  Average Square Feet: 820
  • Complimentary parking

Here's a picture of the kitchen and dining area.

There are TONS of things to do too, and we have yet to do them all! There are 2  championship golf courses, a spa, water activities with rentals for kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, and boats. You can rent bikes, take walks on the grounds, use the gym,  attend some of the programs offered on the grounds or relax at one of the  3 pools and 2 hot tubs that offer plenty of food and drink options. Ask any of my kids about the nachos! We dined on a few orders of those while floating at the lazy river pool and after renting some kayaks!

Food choices are many at Kingsmill too,  we had dinner at  James Landing Grille, one of the resort's 4 restaurants.  Sitting on the water, looking at the boats and an incredible sunset while enjoying seafood and family, this momma was happy! There is also room service, which we made use of at one of the pools and loved it. We had the buffet breakfast which is a part of many of the packages offered and there is no shortage of options, waffles and omelets made to order, fresh fruit and smoked bacon are some of my faves!

The next day, my son and I ordered room service by the other outdoor pool, it was quieter and he wanted to spend the day there which was fine for me and my love of reading. The resort was pretty full, you would never know that looking at this picture of me in the pool at 11 am!

The grounds are so beautiful, I woke up and went for a walk at 7 am by myself, I enjoyed the water views, my coffee, and the morning sun, but got to visit with some geese, bunnies and other friends.

We walked to The Mill for ice cream and iced coffee.  The Mill has lots of fun snacks too including candy. It always makes me smile!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kingsmill, traveling with our son can be a challenge at times, here, I feel like I have enough space and quiet, if needed to allow him to feel safe. The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. One of our son's favorite things is to get a ride via a golf cart to the game room! Yes, the game room! We look forward to this trip every year and will try to check it out for a different season this coming year. I imagine Fall must be beautiful.

Check out their website, if you'd like, get on their mailing list and check for the specials, they are always offering great packages.

Until next time...

Disclosure: We were guests of the Kingsmill Resort and received one-night accommodation with breakfast. These are all my opinions.
