"Meet" The Star Of CharacterWorks, The Cat In The Hat, Hatcher Teague,

Giveaway on our Facebook Page

January 31, 2020

Tell us a little about yourself, age, school, siblings, etc.
Hi! My name is Hatcher Teague, I'm 16 years old and currently in the midst of my sophomore year at Goochland High School. I live with my awesome family of five. I have a twin sister named Hailey, an older sister named Taylor and two incredible parents!

What role are you playing in "Seussical the Musical!" and what are you looking forward to in this role? I am beyond blessed to be playing the famous Cat In The Hat and I am really looking forward to all of this dream-come-true! But to be specific, I thoroughly enjoy that The Cat is no stranger to the audience. Everyone grew up reading the wonderful works of Dr. Seuss, but no one knows yet who my personal Cat will be or what he will entail. I'm really looking forward to connecting with the audience while telling some of these most beloved stories.

How did you get started in acting and how old were you? My first trip to the theatre was with my family and we saw CYT Richmond (now CharacterWorks) performing Seussical in 2007, as ironic as that is. From the whopping age of four years old, that experience completely changed my life and I knew what I'd be spending most of my life doing. I'm not sure if I fully knew that it would mean having rehearsals for 11 hours during the weekend, but I truly would not change it for the world.

How long have you been with CharacterWorks? I took my first CharacterWorks class at nine years old and then began shows at ten. Going to rehearsal was by far the greatest part of my week and I distinctly remember counting down the minutes in my fourth-grade classroom until rehearsal began.

What is your all-time favorite role that you have played? I've been so blessed to play a good selection of roles. I think one of my favorite things about doing theatre is the time I get to spend creating and developing the characters I’m tasked with. I tend to value each and every one of them during the time I spend with them. Long story short, if I had to choose, I think some of the most fun I’ve had is playing Centipede in James and The Giant Peach.

What role would you love to play? Oh, there are too many to choose from!  I’ve played a lot of really larger than life, animated characters that have been ridiculously fun, and I have enjoyed the time I’ve gotten to play them. However, I would also really love to explore the real-person, leading protagonist type character that's not an animal or Disney sidekick.

Do you have a favorite play that you have seen or want to see? I really would love to see Dear Evan Hansen sometime, but these things change daily!

How do you manage juggling school and your theatre interests?

I think school coming first is an important value that I continue to have. I think staying on top of grades and duties at school is what helps me manage it all, but I'm certainly not perfect at it!

What do you like to do when you are not in school or acting?

School and acting take up most of my time, but in my free time, I love to teach myself numerous instruments. I also lead worship at my church and am my school’s sophomore class president, so I do a lot of outside work and prep for things like that.

What are your long-term goals?  I would love to continue ministry in whatever career path I end up pursuing whether that be theatre or not, but I do want to study at a four-year university and see where the Lord takes me.

Do you have a favorite movie, book, food? I love Twizzlers, always will.
