20 Wishes For My Son on His 20th Birthday

Our Autism Journey

By Carissa Garabedian January 27, 2023

This is 20.

A new decade for our young man.

May this path, which is so unknown , continue to offer our star ways to shine. āœØ

Happy Birthday to our son who teaches so much to us every day.

Here are 20 wishes /thoughts/hopes I want to share to celebrate Marky

1. May you always stay as curious as you are today

2. Your smile is contagious and I hope we all get infected

3. I hope you always know how very loved you are

4. I wish everyone had a “little bit of Marky” in them - imagine the kindness we’d be surrounded with

5. I hope each day gets you closer to finding more ways to let us know what you want, need and wish for

6. I want you to someday be able to use your voice to advocate for yourself but for as long as I can, and have to - I will be that for you

7. I hope as life continues to evolve for you, that your talents and abilities are seen and respected by all

8. I wish for more opportunities and chances for you to find ways to be a part of as much as you can

9. I hope you find friendships that bring you comfort

10. I want you to always have a team of doctors , therapists, employers, etc that believe in you and never just push you aside

11. I hope that your unspoken knowledge and eerie predictions continue to guide us all (Marky hates social media, knew hand sanitizer was a must 2 months before covid and felt the earthquake in 2009 before we knew)

12. I hope you always find the same joy you have now when you get on a rollercoaster

13. I hope , pray and wish for you to gain more independence with success and safety in this unsettling world

14. I hope you always feel safe and if you don’t you know how to ask for help

15. I wish you could teach us all how to recall dates from 10 years ago with 100% accuracy

16. I want you to laugh , love and live life knowing you matter

17. I hope the rest of us without autism always look for ways to “let you in”

18. I wish for you to feel accepted and if you aren’t I hope you know enough to remove yourself

19. I hope you always eat cake

20. I wish for you to always be happy and to know how very proud I am of you

As a side note, Marky has become very anxious and fixated on my writing about autism and most things social media. I have gotten the ok to write this today but am respecting his wishes and sharing with his permission. Carissa
